Locally made – mittens, shawls and sweaters
We are proud to offer some amazing woolen goods, lovingly made by some local women living in the surrounding areas. Throughout the ages the wool from the sheep was the main source of yarn for either weaving or knitting and all the processes making it into a garment took place on the farms. Today knitting is still very popular and we continue our ageold traditions in our Icelandic sweaters, mittens and shawls. The shawls are all unique, each of its own make and design. In the old days men and women knitted but today it is mostly women who do so. You can admire the beautiful handiwork of Guðrún Pétursdóttir from Laxárdalur Þuríður Ásvaldsdóttir from Akrar in Aðaldalur. Sigrún Kristjánsdóttir and Þorbjörg Pétursdóttir from the Eastern areas of Iceland and Edda Guðmundsdóttir all of them women who turn our Icelandic wool into wonderful garments.
